Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
At Treales CE School we focus strongly on our pupils’ development of a sense of identity, self-worth, belonging and purpose. We would like our children and young people to be confident and resilient, and develop the skills and positive attitudes they need to be happy and successful in the diverse and changing country they are growing up in.
We also focus on helping our pupils to develop an understanding of their own culture which will support their views and respect for other cultures. In other terms, promoting pupils’ cultural development is linked with our schools’ attempts to value cultural diversity.
We actively encourage, within our daily lessons time and assemblies, to address Social Moral Spiritual Cultural (SMSC) development. Assembly themes include the community, culture, personal qualities and skills, values, beliefs and appreciation.
SMSC development is not an extra ‘add-on’; it lies at the heart of our school improvement and strategies to close achievement gaps and improve outcomes for everyone!
In Treales CE School, we also aim to actively promote British values in our curriculum and everyday life to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. All our pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.
The Key Values are:
- Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
